Menu shortcuts

Various menu items can be selected by mouse or pre-defined keyboard shortcuts. The menu shortcuts are shown in the relevant menu items and use the Mac OS X shortcut conventions.

At the moment the shortcuts in menu items cannot be changed in iCalamus. But that's why you use a Mac. You can easily change menu shortcuts of iCalamus in the System Preferences of Mac OS X. Here is a description how to add a menu shortcut to File > Export:

  1. Open the System Preferences (from the Apple menu).
  2. In the System Preferences, choose the Keyboard preferences.
  3. Select the Keyboard Shortcuts view and Application Shortcuts.

  4. Click on the [+] button below the right section. From the Application menu, choose iCalamus. Then enter the menu entry text Export... and press the desired shortcut, e.g. [Shift][Cmd][E].
Hint: If a menu entry ends with three dots, don't enter three dots, but use the ellipsis character, which can be entered by pressing [Option][;].

  5. Click the [Add] button.
  6. Now the list in Keyboard Shortcuts should show an entry for iCalamus as well as the menu item. You can edit both the menu entry text and the shortcut after a double-click on the relevant section of the entry.

Hint: If you assign a keyboard shortcut which has already been used for another menu item in the application, the shortcut will be removed from its old assignment and applied to your new assignment. (Try e.g. to assign [Cmd][E] to the Export sample and see what happens to the built-in menu shortcut for Edit > Find > Use Selection for Find in iCalamus.)
