Create PDF booklets

[Ten rozdział nie został jeszcze przetłumaczony.]

In the future, iCalamus will be able to impose multiple document pages on print sheets. Until the Imposing plug-in is able to do so, we recommend to use the tiny, but powerful PDF service application Create Booklet. The program lets you create a booklet directly on PDF output, which is known as pages imposition. It is a useful tool to reduce the number of pages that has to be printed, which lets you save a lot of paper.

Simply install it and it nests in the PDF service menu in every Mac OS X Print dialog. To output your multi-page document as a PDF booklet, choose File Menu > Print > PDF > Create Booklet in iCalamus. It will be created in seconds and opened in Preview, where you can optimize, print and save it.

Create Booklet is freeware; the author of the program, Christoph Vogelbusch from Germany, granted us the right to ship it with iCalamus or offer it for free download.

A free alternative to Create Booklet is CocoaBooklet. The program lets you create a booklet from a PDF file. You will find CocoaBooklet here:

CocoaBooklet installs a PDF service at first launch on request. The PDF service will then become available in the Print dialog of each program. After that, you can create booklets directly from iCalamus. CocoaBooklet basically imposes every two pages (so you get two corresponding pages on a print sheet), but you can also change its preferences in order to impose every four pages on a sheet (MiniBooklet).

CocoaBooklet is freeware; the author of the program would be glad to receive donations.

[Doesn't work (yet) in Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).]

As an alternative to the rather simple Create Booklet and CocoaBooklet we recommend the application PDFClerk Pro. It is not free, but you get a professional PDF editor which even realizes the most complicated imposition schemes.
