Baseline

In typography, the baseline is the line upon which most letters sit and below which descenders extend. The functions in this submenu help you to change the baseline of the selected text.

Tip: All these functions toggle their usage, i.e. when you have set a baseline to Superscript and re-use the same function, Suberscript will be switched off again.

Use Default

When you have mixed up your typography and want to restore everything to default values, use this function.

Superscript

It only moves the baseline to its pre-defined Superscript position for the particular font face. The font size itself will not be changed (although you would usually do so when using fonts in Superscript mode). This function does exactly the same as the Superscript checkbox in the Text inspector.

Subscript

It only moves the baseline to its pre-defined Subscript position for the particular font face. The font size itself will not be changed (although you would usually do so when using fonts in Subscript mode). This function does exactly the same as the Subscript checkbox in the Text inspector.

Raise

Use this function to raise the baseline for the currently selected text for one Pica point. This is identical to increasing the value of the +/– field in the Text inspector.

Lower

Use this function to lower the baseline for the currently selected text for one Pica point. This is identical to decreasing the value of the +/– field in the Text inspector.
